Southern Living Idea House 2010

Anyone who reads Southern Living is probably familiar with the Idea Houses that they build and decorate each year. Well, every year, I always check to see where the houses are built to see if I could visit them in person. My luck...this year, the idea house was in Covington, LA, where my extended family lives. So, Mom and I made a day trip to view the house. It was truly a treat for me!
We rode down on Saturday morning and picked up my great-aunt, June, for lunch. Then, we headed to the neighborhood where the house was. It was BEAUTIFUL and had so many interesting decorative ideas...ha, I guess that's why they call it the "Idea House."

There were several other homes open in the neighborhood too! We went to about 4 or 5 other houses. And, I have to hand it to Aunt June. She was amazing. She hopped in and out of that car in the drizzling rain, went into every house with us, and was so much fun to have around for the day.
My absolute FAVORITE house!!

After the open houses, we made a quick stop at a Cafe Du Monde for some beignets and coffee before hitting the road back to Jackson.
This day trip was so fun and so inspirational. It has been a long time since I have been to an open house, which I used to do all the time, just for sport! :) I have lost some enthusiasm for decorating with two toddler boys and a rental house, but it was very encouraging that I still have the passion for decorating and houses! May come in handy one day if/when we ever decide to buy another house! ;)

I have always wanted to do something like this but never have. Have you been to the fall tour in Columbus?

No, I haven't. When is it? Maybe we need to check it out this year.
