A Night to Remember

Dan is officially the most thoughtful, wonderful husband ever.
Last Friday, Dan arranged a date night for us. I knew nothing about the night other than having it blocked off on my calendar as a "date night."
So, the first surprise started with Nonnie driving up on Friday morning to spend the day and serve as the pre-arranged "babysitter." Then, at lunch, Dan gave me instructions to have a certain dress shirt ironed for him for the evening and to be ready at 4:00. My mind started buzzing trying to figure out what we could possibly be doing.
At 4:00, he arrived home from work and we got dressed and ready to go. We got in the car and started out for Meridian?! What in the world were we going to do in Meridian? Then, I remembered that the Riley Center, a restored old theater that MSU owns, is there and there are shows all the time. Many of the people Dan works with go down for shows all the time so I figured we were just going to one of the shows they had tickets for but didn't want to attend. Sounded good to me! A night out alone with Dan was music to my ears.
About half way there, I couldn't take the suspense any longer and so Dan let me see the tickets. I had an airhead moment as I studied the ticket but couldn't find the performance title until Dan pointed out the large letters, JEWEL, printed at the very top. Jewel!? As in the singer-songwriter? As in my teenage idol? As in the singer who's every cd and book I own? To say that I was excited was an understatement and I quickly realized this wasn't a "someone had extra tickets performance" but a specifically selected concert by my loving, sweet husband. My mind immediately went to "who can I tell?". So, I texted my lifelong friend, Natalie, who knows how much I love Jewel. She was so excited for me and so impressed with Dan's planning.
We got to the show and there was a per-show with hors d'oeuvres and drinks at the Riley Center. Dan and I chatted and felt young and care-free for a moment like the old days. It was so refreshing!
The concert started and she sang my favorite song first. I was in heaven. The whole concert was great! It was a pretty intimate setting in the auditorium with only about 300 people and all acoustic. She talked in between all the songs and told stories about the music. It was just great and probably the best concert I've ever been to.
We drove back home to find 3 happily sleeping children and a pleased Nonnie. June (and I) did great with this being the longest time we had spent away from each other.
A BIG thanks to Nonnie for helping to get the night off without a hitch and for giving me piece of mind knowing that the kids were in such good hands.
And Dan, I couldn't have asked for a more special evening or a better surprise. You are the best and I love you more than ever! You really know how to make a girl feel loved!
